cartab

cartab is an iPhone app for keeping track of work you do on your vehicles. This page explains what it stores, where that lives, and what happens to it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
The short version. Your records are yours. They are stored so you can get them back on a new phone. They are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not used to build a profile of you. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics in this app.
When you use cartab, the app saves the things you enter:
If you use the app without signing in, all of this stays on your iPhone and nowhere else.
Photos are the one thing the app deliberately handles apart from everything else.
On the free version, your photos never leave your phone. They are saved on the device and are not uploaded anywhere. That means they are not backed up — if you lose the phone, the photos go with it, though your written records do not.
If you buy Unlock Unlimited, your photos are also stored on the server so they come back when you sign in on another device. That is the difference the purchase makes.
When you sign in, your records sync to a database hosted by Supabase on servers in the United States. Only your own account can read your rows; this is enforced by the database itself, not just by the app.
Sign-in is handled by Apple. cartab never sees or stores your Apple Account password.
Unlock Unlimited is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple. cartab never sees your card number, billing address or any payment details. Apple does not share them with the app.
To know whether you have bought the unlock, the app uses RevenueCat, a service that keeps track of purchases. RevenueCat receives your account identifier and details of the purchase itself, so that your unlock still works when you get a new phone.
The app asks for access to your photo library only when you choose to add a photo, and only reads the pictures you pick.
Maintenance reminders are calculated on your own device and delivered as local notifications. Nothing about your reminders is sent to a server for this to work.
You are in control of this and do not need to ask anyone:
Deleted records are removed from the servers. Copies may remain in routine encrypted backups for a short period before those backups are cycled out.
You can also export everything you have logged as a CSV file at any time, from the Profile screen.
cartab is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from them.
